Many team ideas with and without boosted characters are available in this event’s Call to Arms!

These guides are only released at least one day after the event has launched, because they are based on first-hand experience from testing and beating the fight with different team comps and strategies. And that takes a good amount of time!

Fight Overview & Team building

Recommended:

  • Characters with :earth: enchant, namely Gau (or wait until Guy is released and complete this Lufenia later!)
  • At least one strong group damage dealer, especially with split for full group damage, to kill the Ancestors quickly.
  • Characters with Counterattacks to deal with the orbs
  • A Healer, HP Damage Mitigator or Tank
  • Enchant/Imperil if you want to bring Ranged attackers.

Avoid:

  • Ranged attackers if you don’t have a permanent enchanter/imperil on your team.
  • Debuffers are tricky to use, because the bosses cleanses debuffs frequently. Make sure you can reapply vital debuffs.

Summon tips:

  • Brothers helps with :earth: Earth enchant if you don’t bring your own Gau; if you do, any other summon works well.
  • You can use your summon to avoid the killer :all: attack at the end of Wave 1, but it is better saved as a panic button for later in the fight.

increases BRV;
delays itself;
gains 50% resistance to :melee: Melee and :magic: Magic;

LUFENIA ORB

Appearances: only on waves 2 and 3: when the bosses fall under 50% HP, and stays active until they die.
Countdown: Starts at 15; -1 when player acts, -2 when that boss acts.
Increase: by +2 when that boss takes :earth: Earth damage; and by +1 (to all orbs) when a character counterattacks.
Orb Attack:
Blaze Breath++
removes all of the player’s buffs, and its own debuffs (frames included);
increases own BRV;
:group: :magic: :brv: attack + :hp: attack

Important reminder: this fight is not time-limited! If it is giving you trouble, you can always come back with a stronger future unit later and get those HG tokens more easily.

Dealing with the bosses:

All three waves share the same enemy type, but their behavior varies from wave to wave. Starting with their general features:

They have very simple attacks. Both Springshot and Kick Turn are single target attacks that deal no HP damage, but inflict bad effects (PHY ATK Down or Delay). Their only :all: attack is Blaze Breath, which not only deals BRV+HP damage on all, it also cleanses all debuffs (even framed ones) from that Ancestor. They will also cleanse debuffs at specific HP thresholds, making it hard to keep important debuffs active when you need them.

At certain points, 2 of the Ancestors will use Pep at the same time, gaining a huge amount of BRV and resistance to all attack types. This resistance lasts for one or two turns only, but it can really hurt if your team has no enchant/imperil to help bypass it by hitting an elemental weakness. After they lose 50% health Pep and the automatic debuff cleanses stop happening, so plan your ability uses with that in mind.

Wave specifics:

1st Wave: a single Ancestor, which has 2.5 million HP. It will start the fight using an aura that lowers your team’s INT BRV until it dies. It will cleanse all debuffs (even framed) at 79% HP, but not at 49%. It does not use Pep and has no Orb, but at 29% HP you will see a warning about a strong attack incoming; you have 2 turns to kill it before being hit by :all: Blaze Breath+, which is as deadly as an orb going off. Do whatever it takes to end the wave before that attack; that may include using a friend to delay or delete turns, timing big damage skills to right after that point, or using your summon.

2nd Wave: two Ancestors, with 1.6 million HP each. They will cleanse all debuffs (even framed) at 79% HP and 49% HP. Both will trigger Pep together when the first Ancestor hits 79% HP, and again when the first hits 49% HP. The orbs will appear when they hit 49% HP. Try to kill both together, or the survivor will become much more dangerous with Bolster.

3rd Wave: three Ancestors, with 2.1 million HP each. They will cleanse all debuffs (even framed) at 79% HP and 49% HP. Two of them will trigger Pep together when the first Ancestor hits 79% HP, and again when the first hits 49% HP. The orbs will appear when they hit 49% HP. You can kill one of them first if it makes life easier depending on your team, but try to kill the last two together to avoid the enrage.

Dealing with the orb:

The conditions are very simple this time. Gau is the obvious solution, since he fulfills both requirements. His Earth enchant makes your whole party able to keep the countdown stopped, and each time he counters an attack, all orbs increase by 1. All he needs to do this job is his LD and base EX, no need to realize him or even MLB his 15CP/35CP (but if you want to use him for more than just this fight, you should still max out all of his weapons, of course).

Apart from Gau we lack other :earth: Earth enchanters until Guy arrives in February, so you need to bring a unit with counterattacks to keep the orbs in check. Eight, Cater and Gladiolus are amazing options for this. And if you go in with big enough damage, it IS possible to defeat all waves before any of the orbs go off – check out this event’s Call to Arms for some amazing teams that did just that.

🧀 The Cheese Corner

  • Edge: This is one of the last Lufenias where Edge is a viable option to ignore the Orb, and he also helps a lot against Blaze Breath. Gaanro has a great run showcasing this strategy here.

DISCLAIMER:
Challenge quests are just a small bonus if you have already geared up the characters it asks for. If you haven’t, it is NOT worth pulling for a new character or spending ingots if you only intend to use them here. You can easily clear it with any team to get 400 gems and 3 tickets. The extra rewards for a Perfect complete with boosted characters are a measly 100 gems and 2% of a BT weapon. Not worth the hassle!

The most notable feature of the CQ is that the Ancestors get an extra attack called :all: Wide Tail, with a low chance to inflict Fog on your characters.

Gear Check: Gau needs only his LD; Selphie and Terra can work well with base EXs or EX+0 only. If you have a well geared Kuja, you can get away with bringing very gimped characters to fill the third slot.

For a better idea of what team comps are able to complete this, check the Challenge Quest tab in the Call to Arms.
