Many team ideas with and without boosted characters are available in this event’s Call to Arms!

These guides are only released at least one day after the event has launched, because they are based on first-hand experience from testing and beating the fight with different team comps and strategies. And that takes a good amount of time!

Fight Overview & Team building

This is a rather tame fight compared to other recent ones. Just bring a team with good recent damage dealers,

Recommended:

  • Strong damage dealers, especially with Magic or Elemental damage.
  • Damage Mitigators
  • Healers
  • Debuffers, especially those with good framed debuffs.
  • Characters who can battery your team are very useful to avoid breaks.

Avoid:

  • :ranged: Ranged attackers, unless you bring a good enchanter/imperiler.

Summon tips:

  • Leviathan for the SPD Down and extra BRV Regen, Ifrit if you plan to summon on wave 2, or Brothers if your team is capping MAX BRV all the time. Save your sumon for wave 2 or 3.

Wave 1: Heretic Target Sniper x2

Double Machine Gun :single: :ranged: :brv: attack

ChargeIncreases BRV based on INT BRV;

Enemy Search
(free action after Charge)
Warning that it will use Target Lock-On next turn
Target Lock-On
Makes both Snipers target the same party member;
inflicts :debuff_generic: 4T DEF Down on target

:group: :magic: :brv: + :hp: attack
Uncontrolled Fire
(only used when there is
only one Sniper left)

At wave start: Chaos aura grants 50% increase to SPD
Mechanical sounds rising…!”:(activates at 80% HP):
Aura changes to 30% increase to ATK, INT BRV, MAX BRV and 60% to SPD, lowers BRV damage taken by 30%
Mechanical sounds rising
further…!: (activates at 50% HP):
Aura changes to 50% increase to ATK, INT BRV, MAX BRV and 70% to SPD, lowers BRV damage taken by 50%
Enrage: Yes.
The last remaining enemy will trigger Out of Control (raises ATK, MAX BRV) when the other one dies, and start using Uncontrolled Fire as one of its attacks.

The Snipers follow a simple cycle, opening with Charge+Enemy Search to self-buff and lower the DEF of the party member they will both focus. After that, they will use their regular attacks for 3 turns before using Charge again to restart the cycle. :single: Eraser Machine Gun can be a pain if it takes away important buffs, but apart from that, :single: Missile is their only BRV+HP attack at first. As long as you keep shaving their BRV down, there is little danger.

When they go under 50% HP, they will start occasionally using :group: Matra Magic, a group BRV+HP attack; and when only one is alive, it may use :group: Uncontrolled Fire, also a group BRV+HP attack. If you feel the need to conserve some skills on this wave, do it at the beginning, because they get more dangerous when they are close to dying.

Wave 2: Heretic Ice Gigas x2

BRV Attack :single: :melee: :brv: attack
Lunge :single: :melee: :hp: attack
Blizzard :single: :magic: :ice: :brv: attack
Boulders :single: :magic: :earth: :brv: attack
Wallop :group: :melee: :brv: attack
Blizzard Fist :single: :melee: :ice: :brv: attack; inflicts :debuff_generic: 3T SPD Down on target
Icequake :group: :magic: :ice: :brv: attack; high turn rate; stolen BRV may exceed MAX BRV

At wave start: Chaos aura grants 50% increase to SPD
Intimidating this way…!”:(activates at 80% HP):
Aura changes to 30% increase to ATK, INT BRV, MAX BRV and 60% to SPD, lowers BRV damage taken by 30%
Further menacing this way…!:
(activates at 50% HP):
Aura changes to 50% increase to ATK, INT BRV, MAX BRV and 70% to SPD, lowers BRV damage taken by 50%
Enrage: No.
You may kill one at a time without greater consequence.

The Ice Gigas are very tame enemies as long as you don’t let them break you. None of their special attacks deal HP damage; so their only way of harming anyone is if you fail to reduce their BRV in between their turns.

If you they do break you, their next attack will be Icequake, dealing 30k BRV to each team member and leaving you with a 99999 BRV Ice Gigas ready to splatter someone with his next punch.

That’s it. Avoid breaks, or bring someone who can shave that or delay/neuter them long enough to avoid the follow-up attack, and this wave is pretty simple.

Of course, that might be easier said than done; their single target attacks can easily deal 15k-20k BRV damage, so breaks are hard to avoid if both target the same character. Damage mitigators, debuffers or tanks can help with that. If they happen to use Icequake and you are unable to break them in time, don’t hesitate to use your summon here; it will be much more useful than saving it for the last wave.

Wave 3: Heretic Flawless

Flare :single: :magic: :brv: attack
Dive :single: :melee: :hp: attack
Scintillating Slash :single: :melee: :holy: :brv: attack; removes all buffs from the target (except framed)
Holy Sword Art
(used when inflicted
with a non-framed debuff)
Recovers from Break;
:single: :melee: :brv: + :hp: attack; cleanses own debuffs (except framed)
Homing RayIncreases BRV;
:group: :magic: :brv: attack; higher turn rate if it Breaks/hits Broken target
Angelic Aureole :group: :magic: :brv: attack; removes all buffs from :group: (except framed);
increases BRV (around 45k); grants :buff_generic: 3T MAX BRV Up to self; low turn rate
Bright Ray
(only used after
Curaga has been cast)
Increases BRV;
:group: :magic: :brv: + :hp: attack
Curaga
(Used once after it hits 0 HP)
Restores full HP; raises ATK, DEF, MAX BRV

At wave start: Chaos aura grants 50% increase to SPD
Receiving power from heaven…!”:(activates at 80% HP):
Aura changes to 30% increase to ATK, INT BRV, MAX BRV and 60% to SPD, lowers BRV damage taken by 30%
Receiving further power from heaven…!:
(activates at 50% HP):
Aura changes to 50% increase to ATK, INT BRV, MAX BRV and 70% to SPD, lowers BRV damage taken by 50%
Enrage:
Not exactly, but it will trigger Curaga to restore full health the first time it dies.

This is a surprisingly easy wave. The Flawless is a single enemy with much lower health than the average for recent Chaos bosses, and weakness to every element, so it will go down quickly. Despite having to deplete its health twice due to the Curaga gimmick, it will still be almost as easy as the first wave.

Scintillating Blade and Angelic Aureole both have the ability to remove non-framed buffs from you, and Holy Sword Art will cleanse non-framed debuffs from the boss (and is only used when there are debuffs to cleanse). Remember that, in case you are using characters who rely on non-framed buffs or debuffs (like enchant/imperil units).

If you don’t inflict any non-framed debuffs, Flawless uses no BRV+HP attacks during the first phase. The main danger will come from the big BRV gains that you need to shave after Homing Ray or Angelic Aureole, but the latter has low turn rate so you get plenty of time to disarm the boss before its next turn.

After using Curaga, Bright Ray (group BRV+HP damage) will enter its move rotation. It is a very dangerous move when the boss has reached its strongest stats boosts under 50% health, so try to burn it down asap (or bring a good enough healer to recover that lost health if you want to complete all objectives of the fight).

DISCLAIMER:
Challenge quests are just a small bonus if you have already geared up the characters it asks for. If you haven’t, it is NOT worth pulling for a new character or spending ingots if you only intend to use them here. You can easily clear it with any team to get 400 gems and 3 tickets. The extra rewards for a Perfect complete with boosted characters are a measly 100 gems and 2% of a BT weapon. Not worth the hassle!

This Challenge Quest is also quite easy, because again, most of these characters actually work well together as a team. Use the same strategy as for the regular Chaos, the only difference will be the lack of a friend unit. But you should not need it anyway, since the bonus damage from boosted units is a big advantage to begin with.

Gear Check: Vaan needs his full kit to excel, as usual. Machina, Arciela and Leon all can work at EX+0LB, but Machina needs his LD to be a carrier instead of being carried. Vivi… can work at EX+0LB, but he is not an amazing choice even fully built.

For a better idea of what team comps are able to complete this, check the Challenge Quest tab in the Call to Arms.

If you do try to go for a full complete (only boosted characters), here are some specific tips:

Vaan: Try to used his LD early and spam White Whorl to strengthen the skill ASAP. Make good use of Red Spiral or EX to refund BRV and avoid breaks on the second wave.

Machina: Use one charge of LD on the first wave, two on the second (perhaps only one if you summon there), and save one for the last wave. You may want to wait a bit before using LD on the first one, just to avoid having its debuff run out before at least one of the snipers is dead.

Arciela: Dispelling the Snipers buffs on wave 1 makes them much less dangerous, and removing their SPD Up also helps Machina’s buff to stay up longer. Her HP Silence is a great way to counter Icequake on wave 2 – use it to buy yourself a couple extra turns to shave them down without fear of dying.

Leon: Makes the first and last waves extremely safe, with only the elemental attacks on wave 2 being a threat. Also watch out for the Flawless’ Angelic Aureole, since its BRV gain ignores Leon’s damage absorption gimmick.

Vivi: Greatly benefits from Leviathan and having Arciela or Leon in the team, since he needs some form of battery to make up for the lack of BRV hits on his attacks.
